1937 500cc H.P.6

This 500cc bike is one of three now owned by relations of the Stevens family in Australia. It was once featured in a magazine article titled `A Motorcycle Called Steven`. This article was published in `Bike Australia` March / April 1992. The article stated that the bike was owned by a Blair Gilbert, which was a name made up to protect his identity. The name of the owner at that time was Mr Blair Meredith. The article gives a useful insight into the work that was carried out at the time and also refers to the fact that at the time there were four Stevens machines in the State of Victoria.

As can be seen from the photos below, not a lot has changed in the intervening years, a rack for a pillion bum pad is the most obvious. I have been told that a full `back to bare metal` restoration awaits this machine and we look forward to news of it`s progress.

Blairs 500 then Blairs 500 now

Here is a photo of the `Blair Gilbert` 500cc and it`s stablemate `UJ`, a 350cc which was owned by Alec Stevens. More on this bike can be found on another page. It is interesting to note how similar the bikes look in size. The frames for the 250 and the 350 were the same, the frame for the 500 was slightly longer, but only by an inch.

A rare sight, two `Stevens`.
